The ministry of the Spirit West Coast festivals.
To the casual or typical observer the Spirit West Coast festivals may appear to be primarily entertainment events, and they certainly are that; fantastic entertainment experiences. But in a deeper reality, the Festivals are important ministry events with life changing and eternal spiritual results.
Each year several hundred people accept Christ as their Savior and scores of others make important spiritual recommitments. There is no doubt that anyone and everyone who attends or is involved with Spirit West Coast will be rejoicing, pleased and perhaps surprised in eternity when it becomes clear just how many people have been impacted from what happens spiritually at each year’s Festivals.
Festival Director Jon Robberson recently wrote, “I came away from THIS year’s festivals more convinced than ever that the ministry of Spirit West Coast is as valid as any evangelistic ministry there is. That’s a BIG statement because there are some great evangelistic ministries. But although SWC is not as large in size or resources as some crusade ministries, spiritually life changing things happen at the Festivals just as with ministries with much larger profiles and budgets. The ministries’ purpose is clear when hundreds of people accept Jesus after salvation challenges by speakers like Francis Chan or Nick Vujicic and I’m blown away.”
But regardless of the event’s high ministry value, the continuing economic struggles which are especially acute in the West, have dramatically affected Spirit West Coast. The non-profit ministry is struggling to keep the content of the large, 3-day events at a level that will continue to draw thousands of people so God can meet them. In fact, so precarious were the finances in 2011 that there was no Del Mar festival; a tragically missed opportunity for God to change lives.
What can you do to help?
Entering 2012, it’s critical that the festival’s small donor support family rise to a level that will provide the resources required to sustain these large and unique ministry events. With lower attendances and escalating expenses, ticket sales alone cannot sustain the festivals.
Spirit West Coast does not operate a sophisticated fund raising campaign like many ministries; we simple share the need with God’s people and trust the need will be met. A handful of people give monthly, some make a yearlong pledge (paid monthly) and others one-time gifts.
Each year since 2008 has been a faith-walk year and God has provided through His people. It’s ironic that some years of greatest financial need have been years of the greatest spiritual impact.
As we look forward to what the Lord has in store for 2012 and beyond, please prayerfully consider becoming involved in supporting the festivals financially. If you would like to discuss how you could help the ministry financially, feel free to contact Spirit West Coast’s Director Jon Robberson by emailing Jon@SpiritWestCoast.org or call 408-377-9232.
